FAQ

Questions families ask us.

When are tours offered?

+

Mondays through Fridays, 9–11 AM during the school year. Please book in advance through the Contact page or by calling (832) 437-1777.

What are your hours?

+

Best Kids Academy is open Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM – 6:30 PM. Full-day and half-day options are available depending on the program. Early drop-off up to 60 minutes before opening is available by prearrangement.

What ages do you serve?

+

Older Infant (12–17 months), Toddler (18–35 months), Primary (3–5 years), and Kindergarten (5–6 years). We also offer After School (Pre-K–8th) and Summer Camp (K–8th).

How do I enroll my child?

+

Complete the enrollment form through Brightwheel or pick one up at the school, submit required documents within one week of start date, and pay the $40 annual registration fee.

Is there a waitlist?

+

Some classrooms fill quickly, especially Toddler and Primary. We recommend touring early. If a spot isn't immediately available, we'll place your family on the waitlist and contact you as soon as space opens.

Do you provide meals?

+

Yes — hot lunch and morning and afternoon snacks are included. Menus rotate weekly and accommodate most dietary restrictions. Families may also pack lunch from home.

How do you handle allergies and special diets?

+

We work closely with families on documented allergies and dietary needs. All staff are trained on allergy protocols, and our kitchen labels meals accordingly. Best Kids Academy is a peanut-free environment — no peanut products are permitted on campus.

How are birthdays celebrated?

+

We honor each child with the Montessori 'Walk Around the Sun' tradition — the birthday child holds a globe and walks around a candle representing the sun, once for each year of life, while we share photos and memories from each age. Parents are warmly invited to attend. Birthday treats are optional; if sent in, they must be store-bought, individually portioned, and ingredient-labeled. Best Kids Academy is a peanut-free environment.

What is the teacher-to-child ratio?

+

Our ratios meet or exceed Texas HHSC licensing standards, with smaller ratios in our infant and toddler classrooms. Tour the school to see a typical classroom in action.

Is Mandarin included for everyone?

+

Daily Mandarin is complimentary for children enrolled in our extended-day programs — taught by native-speaking teachers and integrated into the regular school day. Families on half-day or shorter schedules may add Mandarin as an enrichment option.

What is the Montessori work cycle?

+

An uninterrupted block of time (typically 2–3 hours) where children choose their own work, practice independently, and receive individual lessons from teachers. It builds focus, independence, and deep learning.

Do you potty-train?

+

Yes — we partner with families on potty-training in our Toddler classroom. Please send extra changes of clothes, pull-ups, and wipes.

What happens on Katy ISD early dismissal or holidays?

+

Our school-age program picks up on early dismissal days and provides care through 6:30 PM. We follow our own holiday calendar — see the School Calendar page for details.

What about weather closings or emergency notifications?

+

For weather closings and emergency notifications, Best Kids Academy follows Katy ISD. If Katy ISD closes or delays, we do the same. Updates are sent to families through Brightwheel and email as soon as decisions are announced.

Do you offer transportation?

+

Yes — we provide transportation within a 6-mile radius of Best Kids Academy. Transportation must be prearranged with the school office.

What if my child is sick?

+

Please keep them home if they have a fever (100.4°F+), vomiting, diarrhea, or contagious symptoms. We follow Texas HHSC return-to-school guidelines — generally 24 hours symptom-free without medication.

How do you handle discipline?

+

We use gentle, respectful redirection rooted in Montessori principles. Children are guided to identify feelings, repair conflicts, and make better choices. We never use shame or physical discipline.

Is the school licensed?

+

Yes. Best Kids Academy is licensed by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission. Our license and most recent inspection reports are posted in the lobby and available on request.

Currently enrolled families may access additional forms, school documents, and classroom resources through Brightwheel.
